Right of Way Clearing
Iron Mountain Forestry supplies vegetation management services to pipeline companies.
Pipelines carry natural gas, oil, water, and other liquids and gases above and underground along rights-of-way (ROW). The roots of trees and woody-stemmed plants threaten the safety of natural gas pipelines. Their roots can remove the protective coating, leading to rust and eventual pipeline failure. Iron Mountain Forestry helps pipeline companies and utilities meet the Vegetation Management regulatory standards issued by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
Encroaching trees and branches make federally mandated aerial inspections difficult. The FERC has strict ROW aerial inspection regulations, and failure to comply can lead to hefty fines for utility companies. Any ROW Vegetation Management Plan should achieve the following:
- Facilitate safe, reliable, and cost-efficient service and transport.
- Allow routine ground access to the ROW for inspection, maintenance, and pipeline testing.
- Permit aerial patrol of the ROW to identify maintenance needs and encroachment issues.
- Help customers meet regulatory compliance.
Iron Mountain Forestry uses mastication or mulching equipment for pipeline ROW clearing. When the right-of-way is profoundly overgrown, we use heavier equipment to clear bushes and trees blocking the way. No pipeline right-of-way clearance job is the same, so call Iron Mountain Forestry at 720-415-9182 to get a Vegetation Management Plan in place.
